Responsibilities & Context:
Set up, start up, operate, and shut down the feed extruder and pre-conditioner according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Monitor and adjust barrel temperature, steam pressure, screw speed, moisture, and die pressure throughout each production run.
Perform die and knife changes, screw inspections, and basic cleaning between batches and at end of shift.
Conduct in-process quality checks — kibble size, hardness, colour, and bulk density — and report deviations immediately to the supervisor.
Coordinate with the pre-conditioning operator to ensure consistent dough moisture and temperature entering the extruder barrel.
Monitor raw material flow from the hammer mill and mixing stage; flag any blockages or inconsistencies.
Complete shift production logs accurately, recording output tonnage, process settings, downtime, and any quality observations.
Carry out routine cleaning, lubrication, and first-level maintenance tasks on the extruder and associated equipment.
Report any machinery faults, unusual sounds, vibrations, or leaks to the Factory Engineer immediately.
Follow all GMP, food safety, and factory safety rules at all times; wear required PPE.
