Job Summary
The Senior Physics Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, Cambridge-aligned Physics lessons to students at the secondary and A-Level stages. The role requires an experienced, subject-specialist educator who can inspire students, build deep conceptual understanding, lead practical investigations, and drive strong academic outcomes. The Senior Physics Teacher is also expected to mentor junior science staff, contribute to curriculum development, support examination preparation, and uphold the highest standards of teaching and professional conduct within the institution.
📌Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, Cambridge-aligned Physics lessons for secondary and A-Level students, covering Mechanics, Electricity, Waves, Thermal Physics, Nuclear Physics, and related topics.
Design and conduct laboratory practicals and experiments in line with the Cambridge practical assessment framework.
Set and mark assessments regularly, providing constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of student grades and progress.
Prepare students thoroughly for the Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A-Level Physics examinations through structured revision, past-paper practice, and exam-technique coaching.
Contribute to the development and review of the Physics curriculum, schemes of work, and assessment materials.
Mentor and support junior Science teachers in lesson planning, teaching methodology, and classroom management.
Assist the Head of Department in coordinating departmental activities, resources, and academic initiatives.
Maintain attendance records and all required academic documentation, and communicate student progress professionally with parents and staff.
Uphold all school policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and professional conduct at all times.
Perform any other responsibilities reasonably assigned by management in support of the school's academic mission.
🎓Qualifications, Experience, and Required Skills
Bachelor's degree (Honours) or Master's degree in Physics or a closely related field; a postgraduate teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
Strong command of spoken and written English.
Minimum 4 to 6 years of proven experience teaching Physics at the secondary or A-Level stage, preferably within a Cambridge-affiliated institution.
Demonstrated track record of strong student outcomes in Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level Physics examinations.
Hands-on experience in designing and supervising Physics practical sessions in line with Cambridge assessment requirements.
Prior experience in curriculum development, academic mentoring, or departmental coordination is a significant advantage.
Deep subject-matter expertise in Physics across the Cambridge curriculum, with the ability to make complex concepts engaging and accessible.
Strong classroom management, student motivation, and differentiated instruction skills.
Proficiency in practical laboratory instruction and safety management.
An analytical approach to tracking and improving student performance outcomes.
Mentoring, coaching, and leadership capability within a science department setting.
Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues; familiarity with digital teaching tools is an advantage.
