Experience:
Bachelor's degree (Honours) or Master's degree in English Language, English Literature, Linguistics, or a closely related field; a postgraduate teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
Strong command of spoken and written English at a professional and academic level.
Minimum 6 years of proven experience teaching English at the secondary or A-Level stage within a Cambridge or Edexcel-affiliated institution.
Demonstrated track record of outstanding student outcomes in Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE and A-Level English Language and/or Literature examinations.
Prior experience in curriculum development, academic mentoring, or departmental coordination is a significant advantage.
Deep subject-matter expertise in English Language and Literature with the ability to teach both disciplines confidently at IGCSE and A-Level.
Strong classroom management, student motivation, and differentiated instruction skills.
Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues; familiarity with digital teaching tools is an advantage.
An analytical approach to tracking and improving student performance outcomes.

Job Summary
The Senior English Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, Cambridge/Edexcel-aligned English Language and English Literature lessons to students at the secondary and A-Level stages. The role requires an experienced subject specialist who can cultivate strong literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills, drive excellent examination outcomes, mentor junior staff, and contribute meaningfully to curriculum development and departmental leadership.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, Cambridge/Edexcel-aligned English Language and English Literature lessons for secondary and A-Level students.
Develop students' reading comprehension, analytical writing, critical thinking, creative expression, and communication skills across all year groups.
Set and mark assessments regularly, providing detailed and individualised written feedback to support measurable student progress.
Prepare students thoroughly for Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A-Level English Language and Literature examinations through structured revision and exam technique coaching.
Contribute to the development and review of the English curriculum, schemes of work, lesson resources, and assessment materials.
Mentor and support junior English teachers in lesson planning, pedagogical practice, and classroom management.
Assist the Head of Department in coordinating departmental activities, academic events, and initiatives.
Maintain accurate student attendance records and all required academic documentation, and communicate student progress professionally with parents and staff.
Uphold all school policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and professional conduct at all times.
Perform any other responsibilities reasonably assigned by management in support of the school's academic mission.
