The Anaesthesiology Registrar will provide safe, effective, and evidence-based anaesthesia care to patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. The role includes perioperative patient management, participation in ICU and emergency services, pain management, and adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and ethical standards under the supervision of senior consultants.
1. Clinical Responsibilities
Administer general, regional, spinal, epidural, and local anaesthesia under consultant supervision
Conduct pre-anaesthetic evaluation and risk stratification of patients
Ensure intraoperative monitoring and haemodynamic stability
Provide postoperative care including pain management and recovery monitoring
Participate in emergency anaesthesia services, trauma calls, and code blue teams
Assist in ICU patient management including airway support and ventilator management
Manage acute and chronic pain cases as assigned
2. Operation Theatre (OT) Duties
Ensure readiness of OT including anaesthesia machines, drugs, and emergency equipment
Maintain strict adherence to OT protocols, WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, and infection prevention measures
Coordinate effectively with surgeons, nursing staff, and OT technicians
Ensure proper documentation of anaesthesia records and consent forms
3. Patient Safety & Quality
Follow hospital policies, SOPs, and clinical guidelines
Report and document adverse events, near misses, and critical incidents
Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance with infection control and patient safety standards
4. Academic & Training Responsibilities
Participate in academic sessions, CMEs, case discussions, and departmental meetings
Assist in teaching junior doctors, interns, and nursing staff
Keep updated with current anaesthesia practices and guidelines
5. Administrative & Documentation
Maintain accurate and timely medical records in EMR/manual systems
Assist in preparation of reports, audit data, and departmental statistics as required
Comply with medicolegal documentation requirements
6. Professional Conduct
Maintain ethical, professional, and compassionate patient care
Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and healthcare team members
Follow hospital code of conduct and confidentiality policies
