Job Responsibilities:
∎ General Responsibilities

∎ Function as a market system development specialist on all project activities within an assigned district, under the supervision of the Solutions Integration and Nutrition Advisor
∎ Regularly check-in with all stakeholders for whom the BNA Market Systems Development Strategy (MSDS) lists as a primary point of contact (POC) for rapport building, obtaining feedback on BNA approaches, and adapting and strengthening market systems interventions
∎ Effectively communicate to all relevant BNA stakeholders for the improved implementation of the project
∎ Facilitate implementation of the agreed-upon work plan and, according to guidance from the Solutions Integration and Nutrition Advisor, provide immediate feedback on any questions or unexpected occurrences that hinder achievement of results
∎ Prepare regular reports on specific events/activities and monthly/quarterly achievements to the Solutions Integration and Nutrition Advisor, and assist in preparation of the annual and final reports
∎ Maintain close contact and open communication with local BNA Implementing Partners (IPs) for joint planning, strategy formulation, and other operational matters to maximize impact of field activities
∎ Conduct on-the-job capacity building of the IP's field personnel to implement market systems development activities and enhance their impact
∎ Where interests coincide, collaborate with other BNA personnel, stakeholders, and partners to deliver strategic results and impacts in line with Activity expectations
∎ Programmatic Responsibilities

∎ Identify and seek opportunities for collaboration with potential market actors, agro entrepreneurs, dealers, retailers, and lead firms, and introduce local IP field officers into the network of market actors to maintain relationships after project completion
∎ Build rapport and trust with and among agro entrepreneurs (input suppliers and food vendors) for effective communication and linkage development (e.g. help establish WhatsApp groups)
∎ Develop and coordinate demand creation activities for nutritious foods in close collaboration with the BNA SBC Technical Leader based in Dhaka
∎ Identify constraints, market-based solutions, and incentives to integrate small-scale producers into efficient and nutrition-sensitive market systems
∎ Foster gender sensitive market systems development activities at all levels, including input and product levels, counsel local market management committees, and other service providers to ensure that both men and women producers have equal access to opportunities to sell and purchase nutritious foods
∎ Under the supervision of the Solutions Integration and Nutrition Advisor, facilitate a variety of market linkage, supply chain, technology, and business development activities related to agriculture and nutrition, based on the MSDS and work plan, including facilitating agro-input retailers and food vendors to promote consumption of nutritious foods in a hygienic environment
∎ Assist IPs in identifying skill areas to strengthen among agro-entrepreneurs and businesses on a diverse range of business skills like finance, business planning, quality management, human resource management, and stock management
∎ Help IPs identify vendors interested in conducting demonstrations on production, processing, or culinary processes
∎ Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time
∎ Monitoring and Evaluation

∎ Complete event reports for all project activities and upload to a relevant monitoring system as supported by MEL Coordinator in a timely fashion
∎ Facilitate, monitor, and provide feedback to private sector partners and agro-entrepreneurs for successful implementation of the designed interventions
∎ Actively identify and disseminate best practices key learnings, unique cases, and other relevant experiences for documentation to share with the wider BNA team
∎ Complete relevant stakeholder check-ins in a timely fashion for all project activities and upload to the project monitoring system as supported by the MEL Coordinator based in Dhaka
∎ Prepare case studies as identified in the work plan or based on a particular need determined by the MEL team in a timely fashion
∎ Coordination and Support

∎ Support local IPs to develop and implement technically sound work plans that incorporate proven agricultural and food technologies and methodologies as well as learning from field activities
∎ Assist the regional BNA Outreach Coordinator to coordinate trainings of technical staff from IPs and service providers in project methodologies and implementation tools related to agriculture, food, and market systems
∎ Maintain close contact and communication for project planning, strategy formulation, and other issues with Activity teams
∎ Harmonize approaches with other BNA Regional Market Development Officers in the program through best practice sharing and feedback loops
∎ Participate in all relevant meetings and workshops
∎ Rapport Building

∎ Regular interaction and coordination with IPs at the district level, including participation in relevant coordination committee meetings established to promote improved nutrition
∎ Coordinate and report to Abt Associates on a regular basis

Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 6 years' of experience working on market system development in agriculture or marketing
∎ Familiarity and experience with project management concepts such as logical frameworks, impact logic, or result chains
∎ Considerable understanding and knowledge of rural markets, market actors, trading relationships, market systems, engagement of the private sector, and rural service provision
∎ Experienced in providing business planning and financial management services to clients (e.g. profit & loss statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets)
∎ Must understand the technical, social, and other constraints in the development field;
∎ Good analytical and problem-solving skills
∎ Energetic and focused approach to sales coaching and mentoring
∎ Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
∎ Self-motivated and a team player
∎ Ability to work under pressure as part of team, and collaborate with a broad range of public and private sector actors
∎ Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural context
∎ Written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to present coherent and convincing messages to different audiences
∎ Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, e-mail, and the internet
