Responsibilities & Context:

• Collect blood samples in a safe and sanitary manner, using the appropriate equipment and techniques to minimize the risk of contamination or infection.

• Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining the procedure to them, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their comfort during the blood draw.

• Conduct capillary punctures when necessary, especially for infants or patients with difficult veins.

• Properly label blood samples with patient information, date, and time of collection to ensure accurate identification.

• Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections to both patients and healthcare workers.

• Maintain accurate records of collected samples, patient information, and testing orders.

• Stay updated on the latest phlebotomy techniques, safety procedures, and regulations through ongoing education and training.

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of phlebotomy equipment, including needles, tubes, and trays.
