  • At least 3 years of practical experience in rural health service delivery or NGO health programs.

  • Experience with microfinance or community-based programs will be considered an advantage.

  • Sound knowledge of primary health care, hygiene, and nutrition.

  • Strong communication, counseling, and community mobilization skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare timely reports.

  • Willingness to work in rural and remote field settings.

Responsibilities & Context:

Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) was established in 1988 in response to the devastating flood that affected northwestern Bangladesh. Over the past three and a half decades, ESDO has grown into one of the most dynamic development organizations in the country, reaching over 15 million people across 408 upazilas in 53 districts.

With a vision of sustainable, secured, and resilient livelihoods, ESDO implements holistic programs focusing on livelihood improvement, food security, nutrition, education, women’s empowerment, health, children’s rights, youth engagement, and ethnic minority rights. ESDO operates with a community-focused, participatory approach that fosters local ownership and sustainable change.

ESDO’s microfinance program, currently serving over 226,000 members (95% women), is now being expanded to integrate basic health services through trained paramedics. This initiative aims to ensure preventive, promotive, and referral-based healthcare access at the branch level.

Office and field-based (branch coverage) (Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, Natore, Nawgaon, Joypurhat, Rajshahi, Chapainawabgonj, Jamalpur, Tangail , Sherpur & Pabna Districts)

 

Position Objectives

  • Provide accessible, affordable, and quality primary health care for microfinance participants.

  • Reduce preventable illnesses through awareness, screening, and early treatment.

  • Link clients to government health facilities and referral hospitals for advanced care.

  • Improve women’s health, maternal and child care, and nutrition awareness.

  • Integrate health services into ESDO’s dignity-based development model.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive Care:

  • Conduct routine health check-ups (blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, BMI).

  • Provide maternal and child health screening (antenatal, postnatal, growth monitoring).

  • Deliver family planning and nutrition counseling.

Curative Care:

  • Provide first aid and treatment for minor ailments (fever, diarrhea, cough, skin infections).

  • Refer serious cases to hospitals/clinics as required.

Health Education:

  • Facilitate awareness sessions on hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and climate-related health risks.

  • Promote awareness of mental health and elderly care.

Health Records & Reporting:

  • Maintain individual and group-level health records and treatment registers.

  • Submit monthly reports on service delivery, awareness sessions, and referrals to the Branch Manager and Health Coordinator.

  • Ensure proper data entry into the Microfinance MIS system.

Coordination & Linkages:

  • Work with microfinance field officers to integrate health education into credit group meetings.

  • Liaise with local government health departments, community clinics, and referral hospitals.

  • Support branch-level management in planning and organizing health outreach events.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and refresher courses organized by ESDO.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in handling patient data.

  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
