Job Context:
∎ • Apply medical knowledge, skills to diagnose, and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
∎ • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
∎ • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits , consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
∎ • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
∎ • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
∎ • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
∎ • Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected
∎ • Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ - Role of ICU medical doctor is to assist the transition of the Intensive Care Unit to higher level. This will be achieved through:
∎ - Direct medical care of patients in the department and hospital
∎ - Consulting patients on request of other clinicians, advising on the best course of treatment and care
∎ - Building capacity of the team to care for critically ill patients, including mentoring and training
∎ - Assisting in developing procedures and protocols for intensive care In addition to that, supporting daily functioning of the hospital through:
∎ • Ensuring the quality of triage:
∎ - Assist with triaging patients in the waiting area according to the triage protocol in order to attend sever cases on priority.
∎ • Consultation, diagnosis, management and referral of patients:
∎ - Consult and diagnose medical conditions including but not limited to NCD, SRH……in accordance with MSF protocols and clinical guidelines..
∎ - Review patients in the observation room and lead rapid medical care/refferal incase of emergency.
∎ • Medical Record maintainence :
∎ - Record all consultation, findings, diagnosis, treatment plan and epidemiological data on required sheets
∎ - Comply with clinic data collection tools and protocols
∎ • Other Activities:
∎ - Participate in medical meetings regarding patient care and clinic activities.
∎ - Participate in medical activities evaluation, including audits and reports as per requirement
∎ - Consult the national staff in case of sickness during the working hours and to decide, in collaboration with the medical staff health responsible in the project.
∎ - Assist as per request continous medical educattion and training.
∎ - Support in basic management of the project clinic medical activities (pharmacy/inventory, statistics/data-collection, & vaccination activity).
∎ - On request willing to support any project medical activities , gapfill and emergencies.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Necessary experience in intensive care.
