  • Thorough understanding of local labor laws, fire safety laws, and global compliance frameworks (RSC, Accord, Alliance standards).

  • Strong leadership, crisis management, and decision-making skills under high-pressure scenarios.

  • Excellent communication skills for training workers and presenting to top management/auditors.



Responsibilities & Context:

Context:

To ensure a safe working environment across the factory by developing, implementing and monitoring effective Fire Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Risk Management systems, ensuring compliance with Bangladesh laws, regulatory requirements, buyer standards and international safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive fire prevention and protection systems.

  2. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of fire extinguishers, hydrants, fire pumps, hose reels, fire alarms, smoke detectors, emergency lighting and other fire-fighting equipment.

  3. Conduct regular inspection of fire-fighting equipment and maintain inspection records.

  4. Ensure fire exits, escape routes, stairways and emergency doors remain accessible and unobstructed.

  5. Conduct regular fire drills and evaluate emergency evacuation performance.

  6. Coordinate with Fire Service & Civil Defense and other relevant authorities when required.

  7. Conduct regular factory safety inspections and identify potential hazards.

  8. Carry out risk assessments for production, electrical, chemical, machinery and other workplace hazards.

  9. Recommend corrective and preventive actions and monitor their implementation.

  10. Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions and prepare reports with corrective-action plans.

  11. Ensure appropriate PPE is provided and properly used by employees.

  12. Ensure compliance with applicable Bangladesh Labour Act/Rules, Fire Prevention and Extinction Act/Rules and other relevant safety requirements.

  13. Support compliance with buyer requirements, Code of Conduct and international safety standards.

  14. Maintain required licenses, certificates, inspection reports and safety-related documentation.

  15. Coordinate with government authorities, buyers, auditors and third-party inspection teams during safety assessments.

  16. Monitor electrical safety, boiler/utility areas, generator rooms, kitchen/canteen, warehouse, chemical storage and production areas.

  17. Ensure proper signage, emergency lighting, evacuation maps and assembly points are maintained.

  18. Monitor housekeeping and ensure emergency access is maintained

  19. Develop and periodically update the factory Emergency Response Plan.

  20. Establish emergency response teams and clearly define responsibilities.

  21. Conduct mock drills for fire, earthquake, medical emergency and other potential incidents.

  22. Ensure emergency contact lists and evacuation procedures are communicated to employees.

  23. Coordinate emergency response during any incident.

  24. Develop and conduct regular training programs on: Fire prevention and firefighting, Emergency evacuation, First aid, PPE, Workplace safety, Electrical safety, Chemical safety, Machine safety, Emergency response

  25. Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions for workers and employees.

  26. Ensure new employees receive appropriate safety orientation.

  27. Lead and supervise Fire & Safety Officers, Fire Fighters and Safety personnel.

  28. Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate manpower coverage in all shifts.

  29. Evaluate team performance and identify training requirements.

  30. Ensure effective communication between Fire & Safety, HR/Admin, Engineering, Production and other departments.

  31. Coordinate internal and external fire/safety audits.

  32. Prepare factories for buyer, government and third-party safety inspections.

  33. Analyze audit findings and prepare CAP/action plans.

  34. Follow up with concerned departments until all corrective actions are properly closed.

  35. Maintain audit and compliance records.

  36. Prepare monthly Fire & Safety performance reports.
