1. Teaching & Instruction
The primary responsibility of a Lecturer is direct teaching to undergraduate students. Based on the DGME Phase I curriculum, the Anatomy department delivers approximately 527 teaching hours per MBBS batch.
Specific teaching duties include:
Lecture Delivery:
Preparing and delivering lectures on assigned anatomy topics
Using multimedia presentations and teaching aids
Covering Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Neuroanatomy, Histology, and Radiological Anatomy
Practical & Laboratory Instruction:
Supervising students during dissection hall sessions
Demonstrating anatomical structures on cadavers and prosected specimens
Guiding histology practicals with microscope use
Conducting small group tutorials and problem-based learning sessions
Demonstration Classes:
Showing specimens, models, and charts
Demonstrating surface anatomy on living subjects
Guiding students through structured practical sessions
2. Student Assessment
The Lecturer participates in the comprehensive assessment system for undergraduate students:
Formative (In-course) Assessment:
Conducting term examinations (three terms during Phase I)
Administering card final examinations
Evaluating practical notebooks, dissection records, and histology drawings
Providing feedback to students
Summative (Professional Examination) Support:
Assisting in practical and oral (viva voce) examinations
Preparing examination materials under supervision
Evaluating answer scripts
3. Dissection Hall Support
The dissection hall is the central teaching facility for Anatomy. Lecturer responsibilities include:
Preparing cadavers and specimens for practical classes
Guiding students through systematic dissection
Ensuring proper dissection techniques and safety protocols
Maintaining dissection instruments and equipment
Assisting in embalming and cadaver preservation
4. Histology Laboratory Support
Preparing histology slides for practical classes
Maintaining the slide collection
Supervising students during microscope use
Assisting with multi-headed microscope sessions for small groups
5. Curriculum Support
Preparing teaching materials (lecture slides, handouts, diagrams)
Developing assessment questions under senior faculty guidance
Contributing to curriculum implementation as directed
6. Departmental Administration
Maintaining attendance records for students
Assisting in departmental inventory management
Supporting senior faculty in administrative tasks
Participating in departmental meetings
7. Research Activities
While primarily a teaching position, Lecturers are encouraged to:
Engage in scholarly activities and research projects
Present research at conferences
Publish articles in medical journals (required for career progression)
Assist senior faculty with ongoing research
8. Professional Development
The Lecturer is expected to:
Pursue postgraduate qualifications (M.Phil/MS in Anatomy)
Attend Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs
Participate in faculty development workshops
Stay current with curriculum updates and teaching methodologies
9. Mentoring & Student Support
Providing academic guidance to struggling students
Maintaining office hours for student consultations
Counseling students on study methods
Supporting student welfare activities
10. Extra-Academic Responsibilities
