1. Academic Leadership & Teaching
Lead the design, implementation, and periodic revision of the Physiology curriculum in compliance with BMDC and university guidelines, emphasizing competency-based medical education (CBME) and integration with clinical sciences.
Advanced Teaching: Deliver selective high-level lectures, seminars, and integrated teaching sessions for MBBS/BDS students, focusing on applied and clinical physiology, recent advances, and complex physiological concepts.
Postgraduate Education: Direct and deliver the entire MD (Physiology) or MPhil program including course design, teaching, thesis supervision, and examination. Serve as thesis guide for postgraduate students.
Pedagogy Innovation: Introduce innovative teaching-learning methods (e.g., problem-based learning, case-based learning, simulation, e-learning, flipped classroom) and promote their adoption across the department.
Faculty Development: Organize and conduct faculty development programs (FDPs), workshops, and training on medical education technology, assessment methods, and research methodology.
2. Research & Scholarly Output
Research Leadership: Lead and coordinate departmental research agenda, securing institutional and extramural funding where possible. Establish collaborations with clinical departments and national/international institutions.
High-Impact Publications: Publish original research, reviews, and case studies regularly in high-impact peer-reviewed national (e.g., Bangladesh Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology) and international journals.
Conference Leadership: Deliver keynote addresses, chair scientific sessions, and organize national/international conferences (e.g., Bangladesh Physiological Society, SAARC Physiological Society).
Research Ethics: Ensure all departmental research complies with ethical standards and obtain necessary approvals from the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
3. Assessment & Quality Assurance
Examination Leadership: Serve as chief examiner or paper setter for MBBS and MD professional examinations. Ensure quality, fairness, and confidentiality of assessments.
Standard Setting: Lead the development of standardized question banks, OSCE/OSPE stations, and assessment rubrics aligned with learning objectives.
Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, assessment, and student performance across the department. Implement corrective measures as needed.
4. Administrative & Strategic Management
Departmental Management: If serving as HOD, oversee all departmental activities including budget allocation, faculty assignments, laboratory maintenance, equipment procurement, and inventory management. Prepare annual reports and strategic plans.
Accreditation & Compliance: Lead the department's preparation for BMDC inspections, university affiliation reviews, and other accreditation processes. Ensure all documentation (logbooks, attendance, assessment records) is maintained as per regulatory standards.
Committee Leadership: Chair or serve as senior member on key institutional committees such as Academic Council, Curriculum Committee, Examination Committee, Research Cell, and Institutional Ethics Committee.
Hospital Integration: Ensure effective coordination with hospital administration for clinical correlation, integrated teaching, and any physiology services provided to the hospital (e.g., pulmonary function lab, ECG, clinical physiology services).
Public Engagement: Represent the institution in national medical education forums, regulatory body meetings, and public health initiatives related to physiological sciences.
5. Mentorship & Human Resource Development
Faculty Mentorship: Provide career guidance, academic support, and performance evaluation to Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, and demonstrators. Foster a culture of scholarship, teaching excellence, and continuous improvement.
Student Mentorship: Guide students in research projects, career planning, and professional development. Address academic or personal challenges of students through counseling.
Succession Planning: Identify and groom potential future leaders within the department for senior roles.
