Job Context:
∎ For more than 40 years, Médecins du Monde (MdM), a campaigning medical organization committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organization do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM France currently works in 35 countries across all continents where it focuses on 5 priority thematic areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts and, health and Environment.
∎ MdM France has launched a quick assessment in Bangladesh in December 2016 to explore the humanitarian situation in the country. MdM validated then a gradual intervention in Bangladesh and the MdM mission in Bangladesh opened in February 2017. From August 2017, a massive wave of population fleeing violence in the Rakhine state in Myanmar crossed the border to find refuge in Cox`s Bazar district in Bangladesh. This unprecedented situation created an emergency humanitarian situation.
∎ After nearly 3 years of emergency activities in Cox`s bazar, MdM has now entered in a new phase and aims at strengthening its response at qualitative level and to become a recognized actor on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) through technical support to all non-governmental organizations (national and international) implementing healthcare services in refugee camps, for both host communities and displaced population.
∎ In coordination with relevant national and local authorities, institutional donors and local partners, MdM now wishes to strengthen and develop its medical strategy, focusing on MHPSS and GBV as part of the primary health care Futhermore a new project on related components will start in Dhaka slums to work especially with host community. All these elements, jointly with a good financing strategy, will have the objective to stabilize and secure the mission, to assure our presence in the country, fulfilling with our projects` objectives.
∎ FUNCTION: Driver based in DHAKA(M/F) - Bangladesh mission
∎ Time flexibility is required. The position will be based in Dhaka with possibility of travel outside Dhaka.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Main responsibility: To drive and take care of mission vehicles, ensuring the safety and security of goods and people while transporting authorised people (MdM staff, partners, etc.), goods and equipment.
∎ MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
∎ Under the direct management of the Activity Manager, and in strong collaboration and coordination with the Logistician of the mission, the Driver will provide:
∎ Driving a vehicle in compliance with national standards and MdM procedures
∎ Providing vehicle documents (vehicle registration document, laissez-passer, insurance, driver's license, delivery note, etc.)
∎ Checking and maintaining the vehicle (tyre pressure/tyre condition, coolant, full tank of petrol, etc.)
∎ Keeping the vehicle tracking record, logbook (destination, petrol consumption, mileage, names of passengers, etc.)
∎ Managing vehicle equipment (jack, spare wheel, tools, indicators, etc.)
∎ Carrying out minor repairs (changing wheels, windscreen wipers, battery, etc.)
∎ Carrying out routine maintenance of the vehicle (interior and exterior cleaning, water and oil levels, etc.)
∎ Monitoring service schedule and ensuring revisions are made
∎ Communicating according to established procedures (during travel, passenger briefing, etc.)
∎ Alerting and reporting on incidents, damages or malfunctions according to the established protocol
∎ Loading and unloading goods
∎ Carrying out tasks to support administrative and/or logistics departments (collecting documents, depositing mail, making small routine purchases, etc.)
∎ This list of activities is not exhaustive and may change depending on the project needs situation. Flexibility is required
Additional Requirements:
∎ Ability to drive a vehicle and driving license
∎ At least 2 year of working experience. Previous experience with a I/NGO will be an asset.
∎ Understand and be able to apply local rules of conduct and MdM safety rules
∎ Know basic mechanics and know how to solve minor technical problems and malfunctioning
∎ Mantainance of the vehicle
∎ Identify and summarise important information to be reported and information in the relevant area
∎ Know first aid procedures
∎ Adapt behaviour to the target audience
∎ Be able to communicate and understand simple instructions in English
∎ Languages:English - basic , Bangla - fluent
