Responsibilities & Context:
∎
∎ DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
∎ 1. Understands the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of the Hospital and Nursing Department.
∎ 2. Adheres to the Hospital Policies and Procedures.
∎ 3. Keeps confidential of patient’s personal and medical history.
∎ 4. Assists the nurses in doing basic nursing care for patient’s comfort, safety, nutritional and elimination needs.
∎ 5. Assists the nurses in total personal hygiene to non-ambulatory patients. Assist ambulatory patients, when necessary.
∎ 6. Assists the nurses in lifting, turning and positioning of patients in bed, bed to chair and bed to trolley using the correct body mechanics.
∎ 7. Assists the nurses in sending patients to O.T. and fetching from O.T. (Trained nurse to follow).
∎ 8. Escort patients (uncomplicated cases) to other departments for diagnostic procedures, physiotherapy, and outpatient clinics and fetch them back (for uncomplicated cases only).
∎ 9. Assists the nurses in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
∎ 10. Assists in collection of specimen of urine, stool, sputum and vomit and dispatch them to the Laboratory and collect result back to the Ward.
∎ 11. Gives bedpan, urinal to patients and cleans them after used.
∎ 12. Places soiled linen in the appropriate colored code laundry bag.
∎ 13. Wipe beds and equipment’s with disinfectants and tidies patients’ bedside lockers, cardiac tables, chairs and surrounding areas.
∎ 14. Helps to maintain the cleanliness of Pantry, Treatment Room, utility Room and Linen Room.
∎ 15. Assists in serving meals and drinks and to collect trays immediately after sue.
∎ 16. Collects, cleans and refills patients’ flasks and jugs.
∎ 17. Sends and collects CSSD items.
∎ 18. Cleans and tidies the medication refrigerator.
∎ 19. Complies with all Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.
∎ 20. To carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994:-
∎ • To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons;
∎ • To co-operate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty;
∎ • To wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer;
∎ • To comply with any instruction or measure on Occupational Safety and Health.
∎ 21. Fully receptive and supportive in the activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of services e.g. continual quality Improvement and Fire and Safety Programme.
∎ 22. Dispatch memos and Operating Theatre list to all relevant Personnel and Department.
