Required Qualifications
Diploma in Nursing / Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery or BSc in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC).
Valid professional license/registration to practice nursing in Bangladesh.
Additional training in emergency care, maternal and newborn health, IMCI/IMNCI, infection prevention or critical care will be an advantage.
Experience
Preferably 2–3 years of relevant professional nursing experience.
Experience in hospital, Upazila Health Complex, district hospital, NGO/INGO or humanitarian health programmes is preferred.
Experience in MNCAH, emergency care, newborn care, pediatric care, SCANU/NSU, EmONC or primary health care will be an advantage.
Previous experience working in Cox's Bazar, hard-to-reach, coastal/island or humanitarian settings will be highly desirable.

Project Background
Partners in Health and Development (PHD) is implementing the MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) project to strengthen maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCH-N) services and health system resilience in fragile and hard-to-reach areas of Cox's Bazar. The project has been working in geographically challenged and hard to reach areas with limited access to timely and quality health services, particularly during adverse weather, sea-related transportation disruptions, and other emergencies. Women and newborns requiring emergency obstetric and neonatal care may face delays in reaching higher-level facilities.
Job Purpose
The Nurse will provide safe, compassionate, quality and patient-centered nursing care at project-supported health facilities. The position will support maternal, newborn and child health, emergency and primary health-care services, monitor patients, administer medications and treatments, provide essential newborn care, assist in obstetric and medical emergencies, facilitate timely referral, maintain accurate records and contribute to infection prevention, quality improvement and emergency preparedness.
The Nurse will work closely with Medical Officers, Midwives, Medical Assistants, Community Health Workers and other health personnel to ensure continuity and quality of essential health services.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Care and Patient Management
Conduct nursing assessment of patients and monitor vital signs and clinical condition.
Provide appropriate nursing care according to prescribed treatment and approved clinical protocols.
Administer medicines, IV fluids, injections and other treatments as prescribed and within professional scope.
Monitor patients' response to treatment and promptly report deterioration or danger signs.
Maintain patient comfort, dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
Assist physicians and other clinicians during examination, treatment and procedures.
Provide basic first aid and emergency nursing care.
Ensure appropriate handover of patients between shifts.
Maternal and Reproductive Health
Provide nursing support to ANC, PNC and other maternal health services.
Monitor pregnant and postpartum women and identify danger signs.
Support management and stabilization of obstetric emergencies under the direction of qualified clinicians.
Assist during management of PPH, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, prolonged labour, sepsis and other complications.
Support safe and respectful childbirth services in coordination with Midwives and Medical Officers.
Provide counseling on postpartum care, breastfeeding, family planning and danger signs.
Facilitate timely referral of high-risk mothers.
Newborn Care
Provide essential newborn care according to national guidelines.
Monitor newborns for danger signs and complications.
Support immediate newborn care after delivery.
Assist with neonatal resuscitation when required and within competency.
Support Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), breastfeeding initiation and newborn feeding practices where applicable.
Monitor referred or admitted newborns and promptly report deterioration.
Support referral of sick newborns to appropriate higher-level facilities.
Child Health and Nutrition
Provide nursing care to sick children according to clinical instructions and protocols.
Support IMCI/IMNCI-related services.
Monitor children with acute illness and identify danger signs.
Support screening and referral of children with acute malnutrition.
Assist in management and monitoring of SAM/MAM cases according to facility protocols.
Counsel caregivers on breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, immunization and appropriate care-seeking.
Emergency and Inpatient Care
Provide timely nursing support to emergency patients.
Monitor patients in emergency, observation and inpatient areas.
Prepare emergency equipment, medicines and supplies.
Assist Medical Officers during emergency procedures.
Maintain readiness for management of obstetric, neonatal, pediatric and medical emergencies.
Participate in emergency drills and preparedness activities.
Ensure appropriate documentation of emergency cases and interventions.
Referral and Continuity of Care
Identify patients requiring referral based on clinical condition and established protocols.
Coordinate with Medical Officers and designated referral focal persons.
Prepare patients for safe referral and ensure appropriate documentation.
Complete nursing/referral records accurately.
Communicate relevant clinical information to the receiving facility.
Support follow-up of referred patients where required.
Medication and Treatment Management
Administer medicines safely according to prescriptions and approved protocols.
Follow the principles of right patient, right medicine, right dose, right route and right time.
Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and report them promptly.
Maintain medication administration records.
Support appropriate storage and handling of medicines and medical supplies.
Report stock-outs, wastage or damaged supplies to the supervisor.
Infection Prevention and Control
Strictly follow standard precautions and IPC procedures.
Ensure proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact.
Use appropriate PPE according to risk and procedure.
Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of nursing equipment.
Follow safe injection practices.
Ensure appropriate segregation and disposal of healthcare waste.
Report suspected healthcare-associated infections or IPC breaches.
Documentation and Health Information
Maintain accurate nursing notes, patient files and service registers.
Record vital signs, medications, treatments, procedures and patient progress.
Ensure timely completion of admission, discharge and referral documentation.
Support data entry into relevant HMIS/DHIS2 or project systems where applicable.
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
Participate in data quality assessments and routine reporting.
Patient and Caregiver Counseling
Provide patients and caregivers with appropriate information about treatment and care.
Counsel mothers and caregivers on breastfeeding, newborn care and child health.
Promote appropriate health-seeking behavior.
Educate patients on medication adherence and follow-up.
Provide respectful and culturally appropriate communication.
Support client feedback and accountability mechanisms.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Support continuity of essential health services during outbreaks, cyclones, floods, landslides and other emergencies.
Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities.
Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and supplies.
Support rapid triage and referral during mass-casualty or outbreak situations.
Follow facility emergency response plans.
Safeguarding, PSEA and Accountability
Respect the dignity, rights, privacy and confidentiality of every patient.
Follow PHD's safeguarding, PSEA and Code of Conduct requirements.
Ensure services are provided without discrimination.
Report safeguarding concerns through established mechanisms.
Support client feedback, complaints and response systems.
Maintain professional boundaries with patients, caregivers and community members.
Working Conditions
The Nurse may be required to work in remote, hard-to-reach, coastal and disaster-prone locations. The position may involve:
Rotational/shift duties, including night shifts.
Weekend and public-holiday duties according to duty roster.
Emergency/on-call responsibilities.
Working during outbreaks, cyclones, floods and other emergencies.
Temporary deployment to remote project-supported facilities.
Staying at or near assigned facilities where required.
Working under challenging transportation and communication conditions.
