Job Context:
∎ Film and video editors use creative and technical skills to assemble recorded raw material into a finished product, suitable for broadcasting
∎ As a film/video editor, you`ll manage material such as camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects to produce a final film or video product. This is a key role in the post-production process and your skills can determine the quality and delivery of the finished result. You`ll usually work closely with the employer to achieve the desired end result.

∎ 1. You`ll spend most of your time in editing suites, which are typically small but comfortable environments. A lot of time is spent working on computers. As a freelancer, it`s possible to work from home if you have your own equipment.(that to be discussed)
∎ 2. Work is usually conducted alone or with a employer/director.
∎ 3. Freelancing involves periods of intensive work, but there may be times of inactivity between projects, which you can use to follow up on potential work.
∎ 4. The role may be pressured, for example, when working intensively to strict deadlines or on limited schedule time.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Responsibilities:
∎ As a film or video editor, you'll need to:
∎ 1. work to a brief, and maybe an outline of footage and/or a shot list, script, or screenplay
∎ 2. assemble raw footage, with camera shots, either recorded or transferred onto video tape in preparation for inputting into the computer
∎ 3. input uncut rushes and sound, and synchronise and store them into files on the computer
∎ 4. digitally cut files to put together the sequence of the film and decide what's usable
∎ 5. create a 'rough cut' (or assembly edit) of the programme/film and determine the exact cutting for the next and final stages
∎ 6. reorder and fine-tune the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video.
∎ You may also need to:
∎ 7. oversee the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing
∎ 8. experiment with styles and techniques, including the design of graphic elements
∎ 9. write voiceover/commentary
∎ 10.suggest or select music
∎ 11. carry out online editing - and depending on your role you may also finalise technical aspects such as correcting faulty footage, grading and colouring and adding special effects.
