Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Position Summary: BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), based at BRAC University, seeks a Copy Editor (CE) for the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Digital Finance (WEE-DiFine) initiative. The CE, under the supervision of the Initiative Director and the Head of Communications, will assist the WEE-DiFine team with the editing of written technical content. A successful candidate will have a strong writing and editing background with professional experience as a copy editor. Familiarity with rigorous quantitative and qualitative research would be a strong advantage. This is a part time and remote position.
∎ WEE-DiFine Initiative: There is a growing body of evidence on the welfare impacts of access to digital financial services (DFS) and the product and policy design choices unlocked through the digitisation of financial services. Women’s economic empowerment (WEE) is a crucial development issue, which DFS can impact through a number of pathways. Understanding these pathways—the causal mechanisms between digital financial services and women’s economic empowerment—is essential for advancing practical policy recommendations on the effective use of these services to empower women economically. But rigorous and generalisable evidence on the impact of DFS on WEE, particularly on the causal mechanisms between the two, is limited. BIGD’s WEE-DiFine Initiative seeks to fill this critical evidence gap by funding rigorous research studies by leading researchers for projects across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
∎ WEE-DiFine manages the selection and funding of compelling research projects, which may be implemented through any qualified field partner, including but not limited to BIGD’s own internal research project teams. An independent Academic Steering Committee (ASC), composed of academics with a strong interest on the issue, selects the proposals for funding.
∎ About BIGD: BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University, is a Bangladesh-based social science research and academic institute, dedicated to generating and sharing knowledge through education, research, and public and policy engagement in equitable partnerships with national and global actors.
∎ We conduct rigorous, multi-method social science research, grounded in developing country operations, on a range of social and economic issues to promote practical, time-sensitive innovations for tackling governance and development challenges. Our research spans innovations taking place in government, non-profit, and private sectors for improving lives.
∎ We lead the research on the socioeconomic empowerment programs of BRAC—the global leader among NGOs focusing on poor and marginal people—including their ultra-poor graduation, integrated development, skills development, migration, microfinance, gender justice and diversity, community empowerment, climate change, humanitarian, and urban development programs.
∎ Support the WEE-DiFine team in providing editorial feedback on blogs, reports, policy briefs, and working papers.
∎ Support in the process of formatting, copy-editing, and formalizing written pieces for publication.
∎ (Depending on background) Synthesize project results into clear findings and policy implications for a general reader.
∎ Responsibilities:
∎ Location: Flexible, remote
