A Carbon Steel (CS) Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/MIG welder joins carbon steel parts using a continuous wire feed and shielding gas. Their main duties are setting up machines, running clean welds on carbon steel, checking joint quality, and keeping the work area safe.

Setup and Preparation

• Read blueprints and job plans.

• Clean carbon steel surfaces to remove rust, oil, or dirt.

• Set wire feed speed, voltage, and gas flow rates for carbon steel.

• Choose correct shielding gas mixes (like Argon/CO2).

• Check gun tips, liners, and gas nozzles.

Welding Operations

• Weld carbon steel parts in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.

• Feed continuous wire smoothly to form strong joints.

• Control travel speed and gun angle to get good penetration.
