• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Candidates must have practical experience in commercial dairy/cattle farm operations. Experience in managing the health of 500+ cattle / large commercial dairy herds will be highly preferred.
• Strong practical experience in cattle medicine, reproduction and Artificial Insemination (AI) is highly desirable.
• Experience working across multiple farms, locations or business units will be an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of vaccination, disease prevention and farm biosecurity.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making ability.
• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
• Willingness to travel regularly to different SBUs and cattle/dairy farms of the Group. Ability to work independently and manage multiple farm locations.
• Preference will be given to candidates who are residents of North Bengal.

Job Context

A reputed Group of Companies is looking for a competent, experienced and dedicated Veterinary Doctor to oversee the veterinary and animal-health functions of the Group's different Strategic Business Units (SBUs), including its approximately 600-cattle commercial dairy farm and other cattle/dairy operations.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing Group-wide veterinary, herd-health, disease-prevention, reproductive, biosecurity and animal-welfare standards across different SBUs and farms. The position will also provide technical guidance, monitoring and veterinary support to the respective farm management teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage the overall health and veterinary care of approximately 600 cattle.
• Conduct regular physical examination and health monitoring of the herd.
• Diagnose, prevent and treat diseases, injuries and infections in dairy cattle.
• Develop and implement annual and periodic herd-health, vaccination, deworming and parasite-control programs.
• Monitor disease incidence, morbidity, mortality and treatment outcomes.
• Manage emergency veterinary cases and provide timely treatment.
• Monitor and manage reproductive health, heat detection, Artificial Insemination (AI), pregnancy diagnosis, calving and post-calving care.
• Handle reproductive disorders, infertility, repeat breeding and other cattle reproductive problems.
• Provide veterinary support during difficult calving/dystocia and other emergencies.
• Monitor and advise on calf health, colostrum management, calf nutrition and disease prevention.
• Monitor mastitis, lameness, metabolic disorders and other common dairy-cattle health issues.
• Coordinate with the farm nutrition/feed team regarding feed quality, nutritional requirements, body condition and nutrition-related diseases.
• Develop and maintain appropriate biosecurity, quarantine, isolation and disease-control protocols.
• Monitor farm hygiene, sanitation, waste management, housing, ventilation, water quality and animal welfare.
• Ensure proper and responsible use of veterinary medicines and maintain medicine inventory.
• Maintain accurate records of treatment, vaccination, breeding, AI, pregnancy, calving, disease, mortality and medicine consumption.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly veterinary and herd-health reports for management.
• Analyze herd-health and reproductive data and recommend corrective actions.
• Train, supervise and guide farm workers on animal handling, hygiene, first aid, disease identification, medication and biosecurity.
• Coordinate with diagnostic laboratories, government veterinary/livestock authorities and other relevant stakeholders when required.
• Support management in improving milk production, fertility, herd health, cattle survival and overall farm productivity.
• Ensure compliance with applicable veterinary, animal-health, food-safety and animal-welfare requirements.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management related to veterinary and dairy-farm operations.
