Title: Sample Maker
Company Name: SOS Outfitters Limited
Vacancy: 5
Age: 20 to 40 years
Job Location: Chattogram (Chittagong Epz)
Salary: Negotiable
Experience:
Analyze Blueprints/Tech Packs: Review design sketches, "tech packs" (technical specification sheets), and pattern pieces to understand the assembly requirements.
Material Selection: Collaborate with designers to select appropriate fabrics, trims (zippers, buttons, labels), and interfacings that match the design intent and production budget.
Workflow Mapping: Determine the most efficient sequence of assembly to ensure the item can be replicated easily in a mass-production environment.
Cutting & Prepping: Lay out patterns and cut materials accurately. This often involves manual cutting to ensure precision that machines might miss during the initial phase.
Precision Sewing/Assembly: Use industrial machinery (single-needle, overlock, cover-stitch, etc.) to assemble the prototype. In non-apparel industries, this might involve gluing, soldering, or 3D printing.
Finishing: Perform high-quality finishing tasks like pressing, steaming, and detail work to ensure the sample looks "retail-ready."
Identify "Production Killers": Document any parts of the design that are too difficult, expensive, or time-consuming to produce at scale.
Fit & Function Testing: Participate in "fit sessions" where the sample is tested on a model or mannequin to check for drape, comfort, and movement.
Pattern Correction: Provide feedback to pattern makers if a piece doesn't align correctly or if measurements are off by even a fraction of an inch (e.g., $1/8$ inch).
Collaboration: Act as the liaison between the Design team (creative) and the Production team (technical).
Costing Assistance: Help the production team estimate how much fabric and time will be needed per unit, which determines the final wholesale price.
Record Keeping: Maintain logs of all adjustments made during the sampling process to ensure the final "sealed sample" is documented for the factory.
