∎ Position Summary:
∎ The Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and administering research activities, including, assistance in project planning and ensuring that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. S/he will also serve as the administrative liaison for the project, and oversee and coordinate communications between partner organisations, and BIGD administrative and financial services. S/he will also develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. S/he will report to the Principal Investigator of the Project. His or her appointment will be for 03 (three) months over a period of 05 (five) months.
∎ The Research Project:
∎ The aim of this research is to explore the experiences of people with disabilities in Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify possible strategies to better promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in response activities.
∎ Specific objectives include:
∎ 1. Assess knowledge and opinions of COVID-19 and direct response measures (e.g. social distancing, hygiene, access to treatment) amongst people with disabilities. This will include an exploration into the extent to which people with disabilities feel they are at risk of infection/severe disease and feel measures are adequately responsive to their needs.
∎ 2. Examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of people with disabilities, including their mental health, and ability to access needed ongoing healthcare (e.g. rehabilitation, psychiatry, chronic illness management).
∎ 3. Explore the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. on livelihoods, food security, income) amongst people with disabilities.
∎ 4. Assess any other impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the daily lives of people with disabilities (e.g. social life, access to social care and other key services).
∎ 5. Identify coping mechanisms used by people with disabilities to mitigate the direct and indirect impacts of COVID-19 on their lives.
∎ 6. Identify strategies used by stakeholders (e.g. DPOs, NGOs, relevant government department and global agencies) to include people with disabilities in responses to the COVID-19 pandemic (i.e. prevention, treatment, and interventions to mitigate the health, social and economic impacts) and explore their strengths and weaknesses.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Research Coordinator Activities:
∎ Ensure that a disability responsive lens is integrated in the research design, implementation and analysis.
∎ Orient and provide guidance to BIGD and DPOs to ensure that disability responsive measures are taken.
∎ Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; act as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for other research organizations, funding agencies and regulating bodies
∎ Organise and coordinate field-based research and phone interviews, such as conducting KIIs and IDIs, in collaboration with partner organisations and BIGD research staff
∎ Organise capacity-building training for partner organisation staff
∎ Assist in the development of research tools and protocols
∎ Develop and maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol
∎ Monitor the progress of research activities; develop and maintain records of research activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports as required
∎ Oversee data analysis process
∎ Ensure anonymisation and storage of research data
∎ Networking and liaison:
∎ Builds and maintains a relationship with partner organisations and research study staff, and other collaborators to ensure successful research collaboration
∎ Communications:
∎ Assist in the development of communication outputs, including the production of articles, blogs, etc.
∎ Organise national dissemination event(s) on research findings, recommendations and lessons learnt with partner organisations, and all relevant stakeholders
Additional Requirements:
∎ A strong ability to work on a team and under pressure with strict deadlines to manage relationships and multiple projects;
∎ Strong analytical and interpretation skills;
∎ Strong English writing skills
∎ Multicultural and gender sensitivity;
∎ Professionalism in communications and delivery;
∎ Sensitivity and skills related to communication with people of disabilities will be given high priority
∎ Reporting and base:
∎ The position will report to the Research Fellow of the relevant project. Number of days per week compulsory to work physically from BIGD will be negotiated.
