Job Context:
∎ Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a 600-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. It is one of the world`s largest clinical centres dedicated to the care of people with diabetes.
∎ Job Title: Qualitative data collectors and transcribers (2 positions one male and one female)
∎ Reports to: Project Manager/Study coordinator and PI
∎ Contract: Part time ( temporary) for 4 months
∎ Location: Life for a Child Program (LFAC), BIRDEM Women & Children Hospital Dhaka, Bangladesh.
∎ Job Summary: This role will involve working on qualitative data collection with BIRDEM Diabetes Centre at Dhaka, Bangladesh in collaboration with study partners at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and Pittsburgh and Harvard Universities.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Attend a training workshop at Dhaka on August 2023 and undertake research ethic training.
∎ Understand thoroughly the trial protocol and in particular the qualitative component.
∎ Contribute to the development of the topic guide
∎ Contribute to the recruitment of participants in the qualitative study, and obtain informed consent from individuals to be interviewed
∎ Collect qualitative data, using semi-structured interviews with patients, caregivers, and potentially focus group discussions with healthcare workers, and stakeholders discussing experiences with type 1 diabetes.
∎ Perform verbatim transcription of collected data in Bengali and then translated it into English.
∎ Maintain privacy and total confidentiality regarding all information related to the study.
∎ Responsible for the data management of interviews that were conducted and abiding by LSHTM SOPs regarding sharing data and security and ensuring the safeguarding principles of participants and ensuring confidentiality.
∎ Contribute to the analysis and reporting
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least two years of experience in qualitative data collection, including qualitative interviewing, is required.
∎ Ability to use a computer, tablets and MS packages i.e. excel, PPT and Word.
∎ Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under deadlines and independently with minimal supervision.
∎ Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
∎ Fluency in English and Bengali.
∎ Available and ready to work in Dhaka from July to November 2023.
∎ Desirable Criteria:-
∎ Previous experience in conducting interviews with children, parents/caregiver and healthcare workers and discussing issues related to chronic conditions such as diabetes, is advantageous.
∎ Previous experience in qualitative coding and thematic analysis, and knowledge of any qualitative analysis software, is advantageous.
∎ Completed research ethics training.
