Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health systems.
∎ Diagnose and treat kidney diseases, such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, and kidney infections.
∎ Monitor patients undergoing dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), ensuring the safe and effective administration of therapy. Provide care for kidney transplant patients, including pre-transplant evaluation, post-transplant management, and immunosuppressive therapy.
∎ Assist in scheduling appointments for outpatient consultations, follow-ups, and diagnostic tests related to nephrology.
∎ Coordinate patient admissions to the nephrology department, ensuring proper paperwork and documentation are completed.
∎ Prepare and manage reports, including patient care statistics, departmental performance data, and other clinical reports.
∎ Organize and maintain patient files and follow-up systems for patients under the nephrology department’s care.
∎ Ensure all required compliance documentation and regulatory standards are met for patient care and department operations.
∎ Assist in coordinating patient care activities between nephrologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers in the department.
∎ Ensure that patients are prepared for procedures such as dialysis, biopsies, and other nephrology-specific treatments.
∎ Help schedule and oversee patient discharge procedures, ensuring continuity of care and follow-up appointments.
∎ Monitor patient progress in terms of treatment plans, ensuring timely interventions if required, and communicate updates to senior medical staff.
∎ Serve as a point of contact for patients and families seeking information regarding nephrology-related care, treatment schedules, or administrative queries.
∎ Provide patient education on various nephrology topics, such as dialysis procedures, kidney disease prevention, and post-operative care for kidney transplant patients.
∎ Assist in handling patient complaints or concerns, referring serious matters to the medical team for further investigation.
∎ Facilitate communication between the nephrology department and other hospital departments, ensuring smooth workflows (e.g., coordinating diagnostic tests with the laboratory or imaging departments).
∎ Coordinate with surgical teams for kidney transplant patients or other nephrology-related surgeries, ensuring pre-operative and post-operative care is well planned.
∎ Assist in organizing multidisciplinary team meetings for complex nephrology cases, ensuring relevant staff are available and documentation is prepared.
∎ Assist in coordinating the scheduling and management of dialysis sessions (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for patients.
∎ Ensure that patients undergoing dialysis are appropriately monitored, and any issues or complications are promptly escalated to the nephrology team.
∎ Maintain accurate records of dialysis treatments, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed for billing, patient care, and quality control.
∎ Assist in resource management for the nephrology department, ensuring that medical supplies, medications, and equipment are available and in proper working condition.
∎ Coordinate training sessions for new staff (e.g., nurses, technicians), ensuring they are adequately trained in nephrology-specific protocols and patient care.
∎ Support teaching activities for medical students, residents, and fellows in the nephrology department, including organizing case discussions and providing relevant clinical resources.
∎ Help prepare educational materials on kidney diseases, dialysis, and transplant care for use in patient education programs.
∎ Ensure adherence to hospital policies, nephrology-specific protocols, and healthcare regulations to maintain high-quality patient care.
∎ Provide on-call administrative support during evenings, weekends, or holidays, ensuring essential tasks are handled in the absence of senior staff.
∎ Assist in the emergency management of nephrology patients in crisis, ensuring necessary resources and documentation are available.
∎ Assist with the preparation of departmental presentations, annual reports, or budget proposals.
∎ Participate in department meetings, taking minutes or following up on action items.
∎ Carry out tasks assigned by the competent authority.
