Job Context:
∎ Red Cross - Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is largest humanitarian national organization and part of the RCRC Movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President`s Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. As an auxiliary to the government in the Disaster Management field, BDRCS provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people over the last 52 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.
∎ Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position-
∎ Department: International Relation and Communication.
∎ Service type: Contractual
∎ Duration of contract: 1 year (with possibility of extension)

∎ Duty station: National Headquarters, BDRCS, Dhaka
Job Responsibilities:
∎ To Promote the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
∎ To assist Secretary General (SG) and Deputy Secretary General (DSG) in implementing BDRCS five years Strategic Plan
∎ To control, supervise and guide the activities of the International Relation and Communication (IR & Comm) department
∎ To disseminate the basic ideas of International Humanitarian Law
∎ To guide International Relations department to earn reputation of being one of the key organs of the society for maintaining unique international relations and organizational exposure leading to gain support from PNS and other international donors
∎ To develop/update Communications strategies/plans, activities and materials that support the roll-out of external and internal communications content (media pitches and support for interviews, social media, talking points, press releases, key messages, photos and raw video etc.) to support positive positioning for the response efforts of BDRCS, ICRC, IFRC and Movement partners
∎ To build and maintain good working relationships with BDRCS staff and volunteers, ICRC, IFRC and partner national societies. Keep close coordination with ICRC, IFRC and BDRC teams in Dhaka/Cox's Bazar
∎ To collaborate to identify and address reputational issues
∎ To promote an effective coordination mechanism among all departments/projects of BDRCS leading to achieve organizational goals and objectives
∎ To prepare news on the overall activities of the BDRCS and subsequently broadcasts in electronic media and publishes in the national newspapers or in international periodicals
∎ To strengthen formal and informal public relations with media to ensure best use of it in disseminating the BDRCS programmes, plans, actions etc
∎ To bring out BDRCS monthly bulletin, brochure, folder, leaflet and special issues in the leading dailies highlighting the special occasion /subjects/activities of BDRCS
∎ To arrange and prepare schedule and/or speeches to broadcast BDRCS Governance and Management speech, discussion programme and documentary film on the occasions of different national/international days/events on different medias
∎ To ensure and maintain excellent relations with IFRC, Geneva and local Delegations relating to International Relation affairs
∎ To update official records/files of the department
∎ To carry out any responsibility assigned by the authority.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 40 to 55 years
∎ Age Limit: 40 to 55 years (may be relaxed in case of potential candidates)
∎ Minimum ten years' experience in National or International Humanitarian organizations or Development sector
∎ At least 10 years working experience as a Director/Deputy Director/Manager in any reputed organization
∎ Experience of working in communications in humanitarian emergencies, complex crisis or conflict situations
∎ Skills and abilities:
∎ Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication with English and staff management skills.
∎ Working with different groups and nationalities.
∎ Ability to manage social media, photograph and videography
∎ Sound analytical and influencing skills.
∎ Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills in English and Bangla
∎ Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines, identify priority activities and assignments, adjust priorities as required.
∎ Common understanding on PGI issues, CEA mechanism including other cross-cutting issues.
∎ Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to humanitarian principles.
∎ Computer skills on MS word (English and Bangla), Excel, Power point.
∎ Flexibility (e.g. working beyond office hour if needed)
∎ Personal qualities:
∎ Adhere to the 7 fundamental principles and values of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement
∎ Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct and strong ethics with an ability to manage confidential data.
∎ Ability and willingness to travel and stay in the field.
∎ Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
∎ Ability to work independently as well as in a team
∎ Ability to influence, communicate, co-operate and negotiate with a wide range of people and organizations.
∎ Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, Word, internet)
∎ Analytical skills, results-oriented, listening skills, cultural sensitivity, flexibility & adaptability, teamwork and interpersonal skills
∎ Report writing capacity.
∎ Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement experience with meeting competencies to perform responsibilities as stated above will be considered added value.
∎ Ability to adapt various concepts and tools to the environment and needs of the relevant National Society
∎ Commitment to perform any other responsibilities, as when as assigned by authority beyond this JD.
