Job Context:
∎ Introduction:
∎ Accelerating the Sustainable Control and Elimination of NTD (ASCEND) with the support of BMGF is
∎ continuing to advance the impact and sustainability of national programmes tackling Visceral
∎ Leishmaniasis (VL) as a neglected tropical disease (NTD). To be implemented between September 2021
∎ to August 2022, ASCEND is implemented by a consortium of technical partners led by Crown Agents,
∎ including Abt Associates and Oriole Global Health. ASCEND 1`s approach is a close collaboration with
∎ national governments to enhance national approaches to NTD control and elimination. ASCEND`s goal is
∎ to contribute to the global goal of reducing the burden of targeted NTD so that they are no longer a
∎ public health problem.
∎ Purpose:
∎ Under the overall guidance of the Country Lead- ASCEND, the Regional Coordinator for VL Surveillance
∎ will be responsible for the implementation of the project activities of Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL)
∎ Elimination program in designated geographical area. She/he will be responsible for roll out of project
∎ activities, monitoring the progress of project activities and resolve field level concerns. The incumbent
∎ will be required to have up-to-date situation report for his designated geographical area (region) for the
∎ VL elimination programs.
∎ The incumbent will work in close collaboration with the Health Managers for VL Elimination at Regional,
∎ District and Sub-district level, ASCEND Project Staff and partners.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ The Regional Coordinator for VL Surveillance will have the following duties and responsibilities:
∎ Will ensure the planning and implementation of active disease surveillance in her/his designated
∎ geographical area.
∎ Strengthen existing surveillance tools and processes for VL elimination programs in consultation
∎ with Government counterparts, WHO and ASCEND team members.
∎ Capacity building of the frontline workers on VL active disease surveillance
∎ Support government and implementing partners in arranging ACSM workshops and training on
∎ active case detection
∎ Develop and disseminate epidemiological situation update for VL elimination programs at
∎ regular intervals.
∎ Undertake field visit to the high priority areas and share the monitoring feedback with the
∎ program managers.
∎ Contribute to the use of the APP's for VL programs.
∎ Contribute to the development of guidance documents being developed by the National
∎ Program for VL in the country.
∎ Participate in the reviews and planning meetings / workshops at the national, regional, district
∎ and sub-district level.
∎ Assist the CL- ASCEND in the preparation of reports.
∎ Any other task assigned by the line supervisor/s.
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 5 years of work experience in implemntation role in a large scale public health
∎ programme.
∎ Proven experience of providing support to the government disease surveillance programs.
∎ Experience of working with WHO/UNICEF or other INGO's desirable
∎ Preference
∎ Experience of working with ASCEND will get preference
∎ Problem solving abilities and a go getter.
∎ Excellent analytical skills and ability to summarize findings in a clear and concise manner
∎ Skilled in coordinating field actitivites for disease surveillance
∎ Skilled in supporting staff with a varied level of knowledge and capacities.
∎ Ability to balance competing priorities, work independently to efficiently meet deadlines
∎ Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written communication).
∎ Ability to network with people and advocacy.
