Educational Requirements:
∎ B.Sc in Biology / Medical Technology / Laboratory Science
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Performs technical services and operations for the preparation of surgical pathology specimens which includes specimen entry ensuring accurate identification of these specimens, performing specimen handling protocols (grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining), and documentation of all related tasks; assists in training new staff in these services and operations.
∎ Performs ancillary analytical testing including histochemical and immunohistochemical staining.
∎ Assists with cutting and processing frozen section slides whenever necessary.
∎ Troubleshoots assays and all related instrumentation.Performs preventive maintenance.
∎ Maintains service filing systems to include specimen, paraffin-blocked tissue(s), prepared slides, service records, and all related documents as established by the service.
∎ Clarifies, resolves, and documents quality issues, including (but not limited to), inadequate grossing, incorrect tissue handling protocols, tissue block discordance, or other concerns regarding handling of a specimen.
∎ Assists in duties as deemed necessary by Management.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Just graduated, or having 1-year work experience
∎ Required Critical Behavioural Competencies:
∎ Manual dexterity
∎ Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies.
∎ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
∎ Required key Skills:
∎ Knowledge of medical terminology desired
∎ Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests and operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
