Experience:
Post-secondary education, technical diploma, or equivalent experience Electrical, low-voltage systems, or a related field.
Hands-on experience installing, terminating, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting structured cabling, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure.
Knowledge of network rooms, patch panels, racks, cabinets, cable management, pathways, conduits, and telecommunications spaces.
Ability to use cabling tools and test equipment to validate connectivity, cable performance, continuity, and proper labeling.
Experience supporting deployment activities for switches, wireless access points, phones, security devices, and related network equipment is an asset.
Familiarity with structured cabling standards, installation best practices, safety procedures, and site documentation requirements.
ISO/IEC 11801 or ANSI/TIA-568, EN 50173 or equivalent. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, floor plans, cabling diagrams, equipment layouts, and deployment instructions.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to document work clearly, manage assigned tasks, and follow established processes.
Customer-focused, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently or as part of a project team.
Able to lift, carry, climb ladders, work in telecommunications rooms or site environments, and perform physically demanding installation tasks as required.
Able to travel to local and regional sites as needed to support deployments, installations, moves, adds, and changes.
Able to support flexible hours, maintenance windows, after-hours work when required.
Good English oral and written communication skills.
French, Spanish and Bengali would be considered assets.
The opportunity
Reporting to the IT Network Admin Sr. Manager, the Structured Cabling Technician will support the installation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling, network connectivity, and related infrastructure. This role contributes to site deployment activities, equipment staging, cable installation, testing, documentation, and coordination with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure reliable voice, data, wireless, and security connectivity across business locations
The role
Install, terminate, label, dress, and test structured cabling, including copper and fiber optic cabling, in accordance with company standards and project requirements.
Support network deployment activities, including equipment staging, rack and cabinet preparation, patching, cable routing, and on-site implementation tasks.
Assist with the installation and physical deployment of network switches, wireless access points, telecommunications devices, security equipment, and related infrastructure components.
Perform basic troubleshooting of cabling, patching, connectivity, and physical infrastructure issues, escalating complex incidents to the appropriate technical teams when required.
Read and interpret deployment plans, network diagrams, floor plans, labeling standards, and installation documentation to complete assigned work accurately.
Maintain accurate records of cabling layouts, port assignments, equipment locations, test results, asset details, and deployment status updates.
Coordinate with internal IT teams, facilities, contractors, and vendors to complete installation and deployment activities safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Follow safety procedures, site access requirements, and installation best practices while working in offices, telecommunications rooms, warehouses, manufacturing sites, and other business environments.
Provide operational support for voice, data, wireless, and security connectivity services, including participation in after-hours when required.
Works closely with Infrastructure, Network, Facilities, Security, and Project teams locally and internationally.
Coordinates with external contractors and vendors to support cabling, installation, and deployment activities.
Provides hands-on support to technical support teams for site connectivity, moves, adds, changes, and deployment-related requests.
