Uttaran is a people-centred organization using a rights-based approach to alleviate poverty, diversify livelihood opportunities and empower poor communities of Bangladesh.
∎ Uttaran invites applications for the vacant position titled- Research Associates
∎ Reports to: Project Manager
∎ We are looking for two motivated and committed candidates for the position of Research Associates in our project titled “Spatial Surge Forecasting Using Artificial Intelligence and Community Knowledge for Inclusive and Transformative Early Actions (SURF-IT).” It is an international project funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. The project will be jointly implemented by North South University (NSU), Uttaran (NGO), and Action Against Hunger (ACF). The Research Associates will be working for North South University for a period of 3 years.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Close involvement with data acquisition, processing and interpretation using Machine Learning algorithm
∎ Conducting Literature Review and assisting in writing reports
∎ Constructing data driven models
∎ Analyze satellite images
∎ Web development and programming

Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 14 years
∎ Candidates should have an understanding of the stochastic nature of extreme storm surges
∎ Candidates with previous experience in data driven analysis, computational modeling are encouraged
∎ Candidates should have knowledge on basic remote sensing and GIS
∎ Candidates should have strong report writing skills
∎ Experience using python, MATLAB, ArcGIS/QGIS, Google Earth Engine, RStudio/STATA/SPSS for modeling, analysis and interpretation
∎ Expertise in Machine Learning
∎ Expertise in Web development: frontend, backend, server side programming, database management
