∎ Diploma in Nursing, Secondary
∎ HSC with 4 years of experience, or Diploma in Nursing Science with 3 years of experience as an OT Assistant (For OT Technician) or
∎ SSC or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant field (For OT Assistant)

Requirements:
Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Equipment Sterilization & Maintenance: Ensure thorough cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of all surgical equipment and instruments.
∎ Electrical & Gas Systems: Check the functionality of all electrical points, extension boards, suction units, and anesthetic machines. Ensure adequate supply and proper connection of medical gas cylinders and pipelines.
∎ Emergency Readiness: Maintain a stocked emergency drugs tray/cart, regularly checking for expired medications and ensuring resuscitation equipment is ready.
∎ Anesthesia Preparation: Prepare and check the anesthesia machine and patient intubation trolley, ensuring all necessary drugs, tools, and equipment are available and in good condition.
∎ Intravenous & Blood Supply Management: Ensure sufficient storage of IV fluids, plasma expanders, and blood products, and arrange for necessary blood transfusion sets.
∎ Regional Anesthesia Support: Provide spinal/epidural sets and assist with positioning patients for regional anesthesia procedures.
∎ Surgical Support: Assist in patient positioning before, during, and after surgery, and supervise OT Assistants in applying POP casts or slabs.
∎ Equipment Functionality: Verify the proper functioning of OT lights, electrocautery machines, and other surgical equipment.
∎ Operation Theatre Management: Ensure the OT is fully operational, maintain cleanliness and order after each surgery, and fumigate as necessary for infection control.
∎ Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and legible records, including drug utilization and patient details, ensuring compliance with hospital protocols.
∎ Biomedical Waste Management: Follow protocols for the safe disposal of biomedical waste.
∎ Minor Repairs & Maintenance: Perform minor repairs on equipment and replace components such as bulbs and sensors as needed.
∎ Job Summary:
∎ Operation Theatre (OT) Technicians and Assistants are essential members of the surgical team, responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the OT. They play a critical role in both technical operations and patient care, contributing significantly to the success of surgical procedures.
