Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Provide immediate and specialized care to critically ill or premature newborns.
∎ Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, oxygen levels, and respiratory functions.
∎ Assess and manage conditions such as neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, jaundice, and congenital abnormalities.
∎ Administer medications, fluids, and nutritional support as prescribed.*Perform or assist in specialized neonatal procedures, such as:
∎ Endotracheal intubation
∎ Umbilical catheter insertion
∎ Chest tube placement
∎ Ventilator management
∎ Handle advanced equipment, such as incubators, ventilators, and infusion pumps.
∎ Interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, imaging (e.g., X-rays, ultrasounds), and metabolic screenings.
∎ Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to each neonate's condition.
∎ Communicate effectively with parents and families about their infant's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
∎ Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including progress notes, medication administration, and treatment plans.
∎ Prepare and present case summaries during medical rounds and team meetings.
∎ Respond promptly to neonatal emergencies, such as respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, or severe infections.
∎ Follow strict infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infections in vulnerable neonates.
∎ Ensure proper handling and sterilization of medical equipment.
