∎ Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a scientific discipline. 2-3 years of related work experience. Preferred: Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a scientific discipline
∎ The purpose of this position performs a wide range of sophisticated assays and wet bench techniques of cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, including DNA and RNA preparation and hybridization, PCR amplification, next-generation sequencing, cell culture, transfection, protein localization, gene expression studies and analysis.
∎ Administrative work, involving considerable responsibility, complexity and variety, and to manage and coordinate activities of a designated research lab.
∎ Responsible for supervising senior associate researcher. Perform staff evaluations and make recommendations regarding pay and/or performance.
∎ Formally plans, assigns, directs, and coordinates the work of these the laboratory.
∎ External contacts include government agencies, sponsor representatives, vendors, visitors, and officials.
∎ Basic responsibilities:
∎ Daily manage the research lab including oversight of personnel, inventory management, equipment maintenance, facility maintenance, financial management, and independent decisions.
∎ Perform a wide range of sophisticated assays and wet bench techniques of cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, including DNA and RNA preparation and hybridization, PCR amplification, next-generation sequencing, cell culture, transfection, protein localization, gene expression studies and analysis.
∎ Plan, develop, administer and coordinate new or revised program goals and objectives. Implement approved program policies and procedures.
∎ Perform specialized administrative and academic functions, including research and analyses, program coordination and monitoring, data collection, counseling, surveys, reports and recommends program changes.
∎ Ensure that goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished in accordance within priorities, time and funding limitations, or other specifications.
∎ Develop and schedule a program work plan in accordance with specifications, objectives and funding limitations. Oversee daily operations.
∎ Training students and faculty regarding safety, sample preparation, and standard operating procedures for molecular biology instrumentation.
∎ Organizing and maintaining shared research laboratory spaces including equipment and consumables
∎ Building expertise with additional instrumentation and techniques over time Assist with providing annual operating budget and capital budget for review and approval
∎ Maintain complete and accurate records of laboratory orders, equipment, service agreements and vendor interactions
∎ Utilize specialized knowledge to interpret results, e.g. reading controls, evaluate results
∎ Coordinate program activities through delegation of assignments to staff
∎ Recommend additional equipment and resources for the program.
∎ Prepare ad hoc reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or related special reports for the director.
∎ Evaluate program effectiveness in order to develop and implement new or improved methods. Devise and implement evaluation methodologies.
∎ Review program documents to determine acceptance or make decisions pertaining to program.
∎ Develop and facilitate workshops, meetings, or conferences with high impact on program and/or participants. Coordinate logistics, scheduling and participant communications.
∎ Demonstrative technical skills, strong organizational skills, and excellent work habits
∎ Advanced knowledge of genotyping and sequencing techniques (wet bench and analytical) Thorough knowledge of molecular biology theory and practice
∎ Work requires high level of analytical ability to solve complex technical problems
∎ Skills in genomics laboratory equipment operations and maintenance
∎ Skill in the operation of computers, related software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and standard office equipment.
∎ Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
∎ Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, residents and medical students
∎ Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work with other.
