Responsibilities & Context:
∎ ইস্পাহানী ইসলামিয়া চক্ষু চিকিৎসা কেন্দ্র – A Service Delivery Point (SDP) of The Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital (IIEI&H) looking for energetic, dynamic and enthusiastic person for the following position:
∎ Junior Optometrist
∎ Major Responsibilities:
∎ • Conduct comprehensive preliminary assessment of the patients:
∎ a. Develop and maintain professional relationships with the patient.
∎ b. Speak to the patients to determine their vision problems/present complaints.
∎ c. Take and record detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications.
∎ d. Take and record detailed family background histories for all patients to understand the possible reason of eye diseases or disorders.
∎ • Provide clinical services to the patient:
∎ a. Measurement of Visual Acuity and perception to diagnose diseases and abnormalities.
∎ b. Perform Refractions (objective, subjective and cycloplegic) by utilization of optometric diagnostic instruments for diagnosis and detection in multiple types of refractive errors.
∎ c. Supervision of instillation of diagnostic drugs for dilatation like mydriatic/cycloplegic drugs etc.
∎ d. Slit lamp examination including IOP to find out visual abnormalities of eye like lids, cilia, conjunctiva, sclera, tear, cornea, pupil, crystalline lens, iris etc.
∎ e. Keratometry of cornea for fitting of contact lenses and A-scanning calculation of power of IOLs etc.
∎ f. Visual field charting for diagnosis of defective visual fields of eye of glaucoma patients.
∎ g. Record all examination findings in patient’s file and refer patients to ophthalmologist for further consultation and treatment.
∎ h. Provide pre and post-operative care to patients due to undergo eye surgeries such as laser and cataract removal.
∎ • Recommending spectacle prescription and Dispensing of optics:
∎ a. Recommend the patient visual aid like spectacle, prisms, glass lenses, contact lenses (rigid, semi-rigid and soft), therapeutic contact lenses, prosthetic contact lenses, ocular muscles exercises and low visual aid etc. for the treatment of refractive errors. Prescribe spectacle lenses like single vision, bifocals (kryptok bifocals, flat top bifocals, executive bifocals etc.), trifocals, progressive lenses, special lenses for the patients with photophobia, lenses for UV protection, lenses with anti-reflection coating, polarized lenses etc.
∎ b. Verification of dispensed optical aids like spectacle, qualities of glasses/lenses, selection of frame for appropriate fitting/alignment, contact lenses, prisms glasses and low visual aids etc.
∎ c. Lensometry: verification of lens power, prisms and checking of optical center of lens etc.
∎ • Provide education and counselling to the patients:
∎ a. Educate patients on the use and care of eyes such as visual hygiene, spectacle /contact lenses care and techniques for managing eye disabilities or illnesses.
∎ b. Provide patients with information on handling eye care activities during regular days including lighting arrangements and safety factors.
∎ • Community Optometry:
∎ a. Performing duties in eye refraction camps in rural/urban and remote areas etc.
∎ b. Vision screening, eye examination, refraction and prescription of lenses of school/ special school children under School Sight Testing Program.
∎ • Perform any other tasks as and when assigned by the supervisor.
