Responsibilities & Context:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Factory setup and commissioning

  • Develop and execute the engineering implementation plan, aligned with construction and production readiness milestones.

  • Review machinery layouts, utility requirements, equipment foundations, service access and maintenance clearances.

  • Coordinate installation of production machinery, electrical distribution, compressors, ventilation and other utility systems.

  • Establish commissioning procedures, acceptance criteria and trial-run schedules.

  • Maintain approved drawings, equipment manuals, warranties, commissioning records and outstanding-work lists.

2. Machinery selection and supplier management

  • Prepare technical specifications and evaluate machinery against product requirements, capacity, quality, automation capability and operating costs.

  • Assess total cost of ownership, including energy, maintenance, consumables, spare parts and technical support.

  • Coordinate factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests.

  • Verify supplier performance against agreed specifications, safety requirements and contractual commitments.

  • Ensure operator and maintenance training before equipment handover.

3. Maintenance and equipment reliability

  • Implement preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance systems.

  • Establish equipment registers, criticality assessments, maintenance schedules and spare-parts controls.

  • Reduce repeat failures through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Monitor downtime, mean time between failures, mean time to repair and maintenance costs.

  • Coordinate planned shutdowns with Production and PPC to protect delivery schedules.

4. Utilities and energy management

  • Ensure reliable electricity, backup power, compressed air, water and process heating or cooling where required.

  • Calculate utility demand and maintain adequate capacity for production and future expansion.

  • Monitor energy consumption per pair and identify losses, leaks and inefficient equipment.

  • Develop energy-saving projects with documented investment, savings and payback.

  • Maintain utility operating procedures, inspection records and emergency response arrangements.

5. Automation and Industry 4.0

  • Develop an engineering automation roadmap linked to productivity, quality, delivery and cost targets.

  • Support PLC, HMI, sensors, machine connectivity and production-data collection.

  • Coordinate equipment integration with maintenance, production and ERP/MES systems where adopted.

  • Work with Production, IE, IT and QA to improve OEE, process consistency and traceability.

  • Maintain secure access, backups and change records for machine programs and control systems.

6. Engineering safety and compliance

  • Implement machine guarding, electrical safety, lockout/tagout and safe maintenance procedures.

  • Coordinate engineering inspections and corrective actions with Compliance and qualified specialists.

  • Support applicable factory safety, environmental, buyer and sustainability requirements, including NIRAPAN and LEED project objectives where relevant.

  • Maintain calibration and statutory inspection schedules for applicable equipment.

  • Escalate unsafe conditions and stop affected equipment when necessary.

7. Leadership, budgeting and coordination

  • Build and train the engineering team, with clear responsibilities and shift coverage.

  • Prepare annual maintenance budgets, engineering CapEx proposals and spare-parts plans.

  • Coordinate with Production, IE, QA, PPC, SCM, HR, Compliance and project contractors.

  • Submit monthly engineering performance reports, risks and improvement actions to management.
